Whale on sale illegally in Denmark

WDC finds whale on sale in Denmark!

You may have read in the Sunday Times this weekend, how WDC staff recently went undercover in Denmark, where we found minke whale steaks and blubber openly on sale to tourists.
Our undercover team found whale meat available to buy at a tourist shop in Copenhagen, thus putting Denmark in breach of EU laws which ban the killing and commercial sale of whales. A small amount of whale meat is legally allowed to be supplied to Greenlanders living in Denmark - but sale to anyone else is illegal. We are sure that, like us, you are horrified to find that this commercial sale of whale meat is taking place in the European Union unchecked.
Earlier in the year, a separate undercover investigation by WDC revealed that Greenland (a Danish overseas territory) has been actively flouting the ban on commercial whaling, by selling whale meat to tourists visiting Greenland. Regulations allow them only to kill whales for the nutritional needs of local aboriginal people. The sale to tourists, in both Denmark and Greenland, makes a mockery of Greenland’s requests to hunt even more whales to feed its native people.

With your support, our campaign continues...

In the picture above, you can see our investigator in Copenhagen, with the whale meat our team was able to buy. We couldn't fund this vital work without your support and so I would like to thank you. Now we have discovered and exposed this illegal activity, we intend to ensure it is stamped out for good.
If you would like to make a donation to support this campaign, and help us keep whale meat out of the EU, we would be extremely grateful. I promise to put it to good use. And if you gave to our Big Give appeal last week, thank you so much! We beat our target raising a fantastic £7,580!
Thank you again for your support.
Chris Butler-Stroud
WDC Chief executive
