I know you’ll be ecstatic to hear this – the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change has finally proposed banning the use of all animals in circuses. Isn’t that amazing?!
The practice of using animals to perform tricks and collecting menageries is literally medievalentertainment, reflecting of times when people had limited sources of entertainment and the concept of welfare and rights of sentient creatures was absent in the public psyche. Animals perform, not for the love of their trainer, but to avoid his/her wrath.
Our four yearlong battle against animal circuses has been tough, but thanks to supporters like you, who signed over 10,000 petitions, including 2000 postcards - we’ve been able to move the Ministry to make a compassionate decision that respects both animals and people.
Special thanks also goes out to over 200 national and international organisations - which have helped with everything from onsite rescue of animals from circuses to being strong advocates of animals to the government. Also, a big thank you to our donors- Born Free Foundation, Help in Suffering and Four Paws, who supported us in our endeavors to free animals from circuses.
While this is BIG NEWS, it is not over.
The government has invited comments on the bill, and within 30 days any party can raise an objection to the draft rules. We assure you that the strong and rich circus lobby in the country will fight back!
But as we have before, we can outnumber their opposition by sending a barrage of letters to the government that stands strongly in favour of the decision. Help us turn this unprecedented milestone into a victory for animals by writing to the government!
Thank you, Liga Protectora de Animales de La Ligua, for your unwavering support, and for staying the course with us in this historic battle for animals.
